PWC abroad, Using jetskis in Europe

If you are considering taking your PWC (jetski) abroad for a holiday or short-break then there are a few considerations you need to make prior to departure:

  • Register your craft  MCA Small Ships register link
  • Obtain an ICC (International Certificate of Competence) ICC application form link
  • Extend your Insurance to cover you & your PW whilst abroad
  • Proof of VAT payment
  • Roadside recovery - does it cover your car & your trailer abroad?

All of these need to be 'originals' - photocopied documents will not be accepted by the local authorities.

In addition to the above it would be in your best interest to look into the following:

  • Launching & landing areas
  • Local tides & weather
  • Any hazards in the area you intend to operate
  • Local byelaws
  • Are PWs permitted to operate in the area?
  • Do you need to carry proof of identity at all times (Spain in particular)?

The information above can mostly be found online or by contacting the local authority in the area you intend to visit, please find some examples of this information below.
